Kano: Officers’ Viral Misconduct Unrelated To Elections – Police
By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja
The Kano state Police Command has clarified that the misconduct of police officers shown in a viral video was not in any way related to the re-run and by-elections conducted in the state last Saturday.
This was contained in a statement by the state Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, on Tuesday.
The video which circulated widely on social media over the weekend, showed five uniformed police officers assisting a politician in organizing members of the public to receive cash.
Addressing the video, the Command said, a thorough investigation revealed that the incident occurred after a ceremony at the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House on Thursday 10th July, 2025, and is “unrelated to the re-run and by-elections held on 16th August 2025”.
According to Kiyawa, the investigation revealed that the officers were deployed for security at the event, during which they were regrettably seen engaging in unprofessional conduct.
The state Command spokesperson assured the public that “appropriate disciplinary actions are being taken against the erring officers to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force”, emphasising the Force’s committment to upholding the highest standards of discipline and ethics and ensuring the trust and confidence of the public.
