Senegal’s players briefly walked off the pitch in protest before returning after discussions, heightening the chaos.

The game proceeded to extra time, where Senegal seized control.

In the 94th minute, Pape Gueye unleashed a powerful long-range strike from the edge of the box, firing a left-footed beauty past goalkeeper Yassine Bounou into the top corner to give the Lions of Teranga the lead.

Morocco pushed desperately for an equalizer in the remaining minutes, but Senegal’s defense held firm, denying the hosts despite their late pressure.

The final whistle triggered wild celebrations for Senegal, who added to their 2021 triumph.

Sadio Mané, who had hinted this might be his last AFCON, was instrumental throughout the competition with his leadership and performances.

For Morocco, the defeat was heartbreaking on home soil, ending their bid for a first AFCON title since 1976 despite a strong campaign that included a penalty shootout victory over Nigeria in the semi-finals.

The tournament, hosted by Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, delivered memorable moments, including Nigeria securing third place with a penalty shootout win over Egypt.
