The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has assured the Taraba State Government of the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the Taraba State Police Command.
The assurance was given on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, as part of ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration for improved internal security.
Governor Kefas was accompanied by a high-powered delegation comprising Senator Shuaibu Lau (Taraba North), Senator David Jimkuta (Taraba South), and Senator Haruna Manu (Taraba Central). Also in attendance were members of the House of Representatives, including Honourable Abdullahi Mohammed Lauwa, Honourable David Abel, Honourable Ayuba Zaku, alongside other legislators, as well as the Taraba State Commissioners for Justice, Information, and Finance.
Discussions during the visit focused on the prevailing security challenges in parts of Taraba State, particularly Karim Lamido Local Government Area, which has experienced recurrent security threats arising from communal tensions, criminal activities, and pockets of violent disturbances. These challenges have necessitated sustained security interventions, leading the Taraba State Government to designate the area as a Special Area of Security Concern requiring enhanced policing and coordinated responses.
In his remarks, Governor Kefas commended the IGP for his proactive leadership and the visible support already extended to the Taraba State Police Command. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing critical logistical and operational support to the Command, aimed at boosting morale, effectiveness, and rapid response capabilities of personnel on the ground.
Responding, IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to supporting the Taraba State Police Command through intelligence-led operations, strategic deployments, and sustained engagement with local stakeholders.
He stressed that the stabilization of Karim Lamido and other flashpoints in the state remains a top priority, assuring that the Force will continue to deploy necessary resources to protect lives and property.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its resolve to work closely with state governments in addressing security challenges nationwide.
The visit reinforces a shared determination to enhance public safety, strengthen community policing efforts, and restore lasting peace across Taraba State.
