Railway Corporation Increases Daily Trips On Abuja–Kaduna Train Route
By Stella Enenche, Abuja
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has increased the number of daily trips on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS), with the new schedule set to take effect from March 6, 2026.
NRC disclosed this on Tuesday via a post on its official X handle on Tuesday.
TheFactDaily noted that the rail corridor had previously faced disruptions following the March 28, 2022 bomb blast and the August 26, 2025 derailment.
he incidents led to a reduction in available rolling stock from three to one, the introduction of Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSR) and a cut in the number of daily trips.
However, with operational stability restored and some of the temporary speed restrictions relaxed, the NRC said it has expanded services to better serve commuters along the route.
The Corporation said the adjustment was necessitated by growing passenger demand on the corridor and is aimed at providing more travel options, improving operational flexibility and strengthening service delivery.
Under the revised timetable, three trips will operate on Fridays and Sundays, as well as on Saturdays and Mondays, while two trips will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Idu–Rigasa train will depart Idu at 8:45 a.m. and return from Rigasa at 2:30 p.m.
On Fridays and Sundays, departures from Idu are scheduled for 7:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., while a return trip from Rigasa will depart at 11:30 a.m.
On Saturdays and Mondays, trains will depart Rigasa at 7:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., with a departure from Idu at 11:00 a.m. All services will make scheduled stops at Kubwa.
The Corporation urged passengers to take note of the new timetable and plan their journeys accordingly, reaffirming its commitment to improving capacity, safety, reliability and overall passenger experience across its network.
