The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on Wednesday, on behalf of the government, extending congratulations to workers across the country for their contributions to national development.
He commended Nigerian workers for their resilience, hard work, and dedication, noting that their efforts remain central to the nation’s growth and prosperity.
The Minister urged workers to continue to uphold values of patriotism, productivity, and commitment, describing these as vital to achieving sustainable development.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and ensuring a secure, enabling environment for economic progress.
While wishing Nigerians a peaceful Workers’ Day celebration, he called on citizens to remain law-abiding and use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity and diligence in nation-building.
