FG Alerts Nigerians Resident In South Africa On Reported Law Operations

The Nigerian Consulate General in Johannesburg has alerted Nigerians resident in South Africa on planned large-scale law enforcement operations across parts of Gauteng Province from Monday, May 11 to Friday, May 15, 2026.

According to a statement issued by Amb. (Mrs) Niowkanwa Okey-Uche, the South African authorities would conduct coordinated operations targeting undocumented foreigners, criminal activities, violations and other compliance-related matters.

The operations are expected to involve multiple agencies, including the South African Police Service, Metro Police, Department of Home Affairs, National Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Authorities and the South African National Defence Force.

They may feature roadblocks, stop-and-search exercises, verification checks and possible house-to-house inspections. Non-compliant vehicle owners could also face impoundment of vehicles and arrests.

Areas marked for intensified operations include Alexandra, Johannesburg Central Business District, Mamelodi and Astonville.

The Consulate therefore urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding, carry valid identification and immigration documents, regularise outstanding immigration, business or vehicle compliance issues, and avoid unnecessary movement remains committed to the welfare and protection of Nigerian nationals and will continue to monitor developments closely,” the statement said.
