Troops of 8 Division under Operation FANSAN YANMA have overrun suspected terrorist hideouts in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State during a coordinated clearance operation backed by intelligence and aerial surveillance.
Military sources disclosed that the operation was launched at about 4:00 a.m. on May 20 following credible intelligence on terrorist activities around Shadadi village and adjoining communities.
TheFact Daily notes that the latest raid is part of ongoing military offensives targeting terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West region.
According to the military, troops advanced on the suspected enclaves but came under heavy attack from the terrorists, triggering an intense gun battle.
However, with support from drone surveillance, the troops reportedly overwhelmed the terrorists and successfully captured the hideouts after forcing the criminals to retreat.
Items recovered during the operation included a magazine loaded with 15 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition and three motorcycles suspected to have been used for terrorist operations within the area.
Troops also destroyed several life-support structures and logistics bases used by the terrorists during the offensive.
Sources further revealed that one soldier sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter. The wounded personnel was stabilised at the scene before being evacuated for further medical treatment.
According to the military, troops have sustained aggressive clearance operations, raids, and domination patrols aimed at denying criminal groups freedom of movement and operational footholds across affected areas.
