By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued two kidnap victims, including a nursing mother and her six-month-old baby, following a swift response to a kidnapping incident in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

This was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army.

According to him, the victims were freed after troops, working alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), launched a pursuit operation against suspected terrorists who had abducted five members of a family during a late-night attack on a residence near Solid Rock School in the Ijalu area of Egbe on June 3.

The attackers stormed the residence and whisked away five family members, including Mrs. Adekemi Idowu, her infant child and three others.

Following a distress call, troops immediately mobilised and tracked the kidnappers along their escape route. The pressure mounted by the security team reportedly forced the suspects to abandon Mrs. Idowu and her baby near the Oro axis before fleeing into the surrounding area.

The rescued mother and child were safely reunited with their family, while troops have intensified search-and-rescue operations to secure the release of the remaining abductees and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
