Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed investigators and heads of investigative units across the country to prioritise the accurate capture and management of suspects’ information.

Disu, on Wednesday, at the opening of a one-day Crime and Incident Database Impact Sensitisation Workshop organised by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, described data-driven policing as critical to modern crime-fighting and intelligence gathering.

The workshop focused on the Suspects’ Information Capturing Process under the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database (NPF-ICD) Centre Project, an initiative aimed at strengthening crime analysis, intelligence gathering, evidence-based investigations, inter-agency collaboration and proactive crime prevention.

Speaking at the event, Disu said effective policing in the modern era depends on timely, accurate and actionable data, stressing that law enforcement agencies can no longer rely solely on conventional investigative methods.

He described the Crime and Incident Database Centre as a vital national policing asset capable of improving investigative outcomes, tracking criminal trends, identifying repeat offenders, linking crimes across jurisdictions and supporting informed operational and strategic decisions.

The police chief also reiterated his administration’s commitment to modernising policing through technology, innovation and intelligence-led strategies. He urged officers to comply with established procedures for capturing suspects’ information and to utilise the workshop to develop practical solutions that would improve operational efficiency and strengthen the Force’s crime management architecture.

According to him, effective database management remains a key component of efforts to build a more professional, accountable and citizen-focused police force while enhancing public safety nationwide.

The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to leveraging technology and innovation to improve service delivery and strengthen intelligence-led policing across the country.
