The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has congratulated Mr. Raphael Oni on his appointment as Special Assistant on Digital and Public Diplomacy to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye.
His appointment was announced on Tuesday by the Spokesperson to the Ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa. He was appointed alongside Richard Elesho, who was designated as Special Assistant on Media and Strategic Communications.
The Chairman, NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, in a statement on Wednesday, described Oni’s appointment as a welcome development for effective public diplomacy and digital engagement.
With over 15 years of distinguished service in diplomatic reporting, government communication, and photojournalism, and as publisher of Diplomats Extra Magazine, Mr. Oni brings the professional experience and institutional knowledge that the Ministry and the Nigerian public will greatly benefit from.
Mr. Oni also served as Secretary of the NUJ Correspondents Chapel, Abuja, where he carried out his duties diligently and remained a committed member.
Ike said the NUJ FCT Council believes he would bring his wealth of experience to bear in this new appointment and would be an excellent ambassador for the Union.
According to her, as a former Secretary General of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria, Mr. Oni has demonstrated steadfast commitment to journalistic standards and professional collaboration.
“We are confident he will use his expertise to strengthen transparent, timely, and strategic communications that advance the Ministry’s mandate and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” she added.
While pledging the support of the union, Ike said the NUJ FCT Council looks forward to a cordial and productive working relationship with Mr. Oni and the new media team.
