Miva Open University, O2 Academy Partner To Boost Industry Readiness For Mass Comm Students

Mass Communication students at Miva Open University will soon have access to professional certifications, mentorship and hands-on industry experience following a new partnership between the institution and O2 Academy.

Miva Open University, Doreen Ugbeh, was aimed at strengthening student employability by combining classroom learning with practical exposure through certification programmes, workshops, masterclasses, guest lectures, mentorship schemes, career coaching, conferences and networking events, amongst other 

Programmes Coordinator at Miva’s Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies, Dr. Funmi Shodipe, said the partnership reflects the university’s commitment to pairing strong academic foundations with the practical skills students need to succeed in a fast-changing economy.

She noted that preparing students for the future means linking classroom learning to real workplace demands, adding that the O2 Academy partnership gives Mass Communication students access to professional certifications, industry practitioners and hands-on learning opportunities that build their skills, confidence and industry awareness.

Provost of O2 Academy, Ozoemena Mbanefo, said the organisation was pleased to collaborate with Miva on an initiative centred on practical, industry-relevant learning.

He said combining academic instruction with professional certifications, expert-led sessions and real-world exposure would help equip students with relevant skills for their continued professional growth.

The partnership comes as employers increasingly seek graduates who pair academic knowledge with digital fluency, adaptability, creativity and a strong grasp of current industry practices.

Miva said the collaboration will also explore continuous professional development opportunities, including internships and project-based learning, to further bridge the gap between higher education and workplace expectations.
