The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged kidnapping at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja, saying investigations found no evidence that any abduction occurred.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, in a statement on Thursday, officers attached to Nyanya Division received a distress call at about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, alleging that kidnappers had invaded the school.
Adeh said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nyanya Division immediately deployed officers and surveillance teams to the scene in response to the report.
Preliminary investigations revealed that panic broke out after some pupils suddenly began shouting “kidnappers” and running out of the school premises, causing alarm among teachers and residents of the area.
The police subsequently cordoned off the school and conducted a thorough search of the premises.
“Following extensive search and questioning of persons within and around the school premises, no kidnapping incident was established, no suspect was sighted, and no victim was identified,” Adeh said.
She added that officers also searched surrounding hills, boundaries and adjoining areas, while nearby schools were visited as part of precautionary security measures.
The Command urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic and tension in communities.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
