By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed that human capital development remains central to national security, pledging enhanced support and resources for the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB).

Speaking on Wednesday while receiving the university’s Governing Council and Management Team during a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja, Shaibu said sustained investment in education, research, innovation and technology is vital to building a professional, adaptive and combat-ready Nigerian Army.

Describing NAUB as a strategic national asset, the COAS said the institution is strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture through specialised programmes in cybersecurity, cyber warfare, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. He also praised plans to establish a Centre for Military Performance Management, saying it would boost defence research, institutional effectiveness and strategic decision-making.

Earlier, NAUB Chancellor, His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, commended the COAS for his leadership and sustained backing of the institution. He also expressed appreciation for the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award presented to him during the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration and announced that the university will hold its combined graduation ceremony in October 2026.
