Edun Rallies Support For Nigeria’s Economy At W/Bank-IMF Spring Meetings

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, has led Nigerian delegation to the 2024 World Bank-International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings in Washington DC, to push for global support for Nigeria’s economic reforms.

The Annual Meetings bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, civil society, media, and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, global financial stability, poverty eradication, inclusive economic growth and job creation, climate change, and others.

A statement on Monday by the Director, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Finance, Mr Mohammed Manga, said the Minister is headlining a flagship event titled: Women Transforming the World, to be hosted by the World Bank President, Ajay Banga.

He would also be leading the African caucus’ effort at mainstreaming the concerted call for strengthening Africa’s resilience to surmount the multi-faceted challenges facing the continent.

He is quoted as saying, Countries’ domestic adjustment policy efforts and structural reform agendas stand to yield better outcomes if accompanied by access to adequate and affordable financing.

According to the statement, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would also be hosting an event on the sideline titled, Strengthening ties with Nigerians Abroad: A conversation with Yemi Cardoso, Governor, CBN.

The event is expected to detail the apex bank’s bold reforms and how the Diasporans can key into it, especially in the renewed bid to attract more remittances.

The IMF analytical corner will also be a regular feature with themes such as, the Clock is ticking: Meeting Sub-Saharan Africa’s Urgent Job Creation Challenge’; How Do Governance Reforms Promote Economic Growth and Social Inclusion; Harnessing Renewables in Sub-Saharan Africa: Barriers to Reforms and Economic Prospects.
