The Nigeria Police Force says it has finalised comprehensive security deployments and operational arrangements ahead of the Ekiti State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
According to the Force PRO, Anthony Placid, the deployment covers all 2,545 polling units across the state, as well as critical national assets, major entry and exit routes, border communities, and other strategic locations identified for enhanced security coverage.
Providing an update on the Force’s preparedness, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, disclosed that a multi-layered security architecture has been put in place to guarantee a peaceful, credible, and hitch-free electoral process.
According to him, security personnel and operational assets have been strategically positioned across polling units and other key locations to ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, observers, and election materials throughout the exercise.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, assured members of the public that all officers and personnel deployed for election duty have been adequately briefed on their responsibilities and rules of engagement. He emphasised that officers would carry out their duties professionally, impartially, and in strict compliance with the law.
The Force warns that electoral offences and any act capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process will be met with appropriate legal action in accordance with the Electoral Act and other extant laws. Citizens are therefore urged to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the election period.
To facilitate rapid response to security concerns, the Nigeria Police Force has activated a dedicated election emergency line, 080062335577, which will remain operational throughout the election period. Members of the public are encouraged to promptly report any security incidents or suspicious activities through the hotline.
The Force further urges eligible voters to come out peacefully and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation, while cautioning against the spread of misinformation and unverified reports capable of causing panic or disrupting public order.
The Nigeria Police Force reassured residents of Ekiti State of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and to supporting the conduct of a free, fair, credible, and peaceful governorship election.
