The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially closed its Situation Room set up for the Osun State governorship election, following the announcement of results in the early hours of Sunday.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, made the announcement while addressing the Commission Staff, thanking them for their hard work and professionalism throughout the exercise.
He singled out employees at INEC’s national headquarters, in Osun State, and across local government offices, along with field officers stationed at polling units, and technical support teams, for special recognition.
According to the Chairman, many staff members put in long hours away from their families under difficult conditions to help ensure the election ran smoothly and its integrity was protected. He credited the calm that marked the voting process to divine providence.
Amupitan framed the Osun exercise as an important checkpoint rather than a finish line, saying the take-aways from the election should shape how the Commission gets ready for the 2027 general election.
He pushed staff to keep up strong standards of alertness, openness, and professional conduct, while staying strictly impartial in their work.
He also encouraged personnel to stay dedicated to INEC’s mission and to appreciate the Commission’s role in upholding Nigeria’s democratic system, telling them their experience from Osun should sharpen their approach to the national election ahead and calling on them to see themselves as protectors of the nation’s democratic process.
With those remarks, the Chairman formally brought the #OsunDecides2026 Situation Room to a close, ending the Commission’s centralised monitoring operation for the governorship race.
