Nigerian Navy Marines Neutralise 34 Terrorists, Disrupt Boko Haram Operations In Lake Chad
By Sunday Etuka
2 Navy Marines stationed at Naval Base Lake Chad have recorded major gains against Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in the Lake Chad area.
Working with the 403 Amphibious Brigade of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI, the troops carried out sustained offensive operations driven by intelligence.
The Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, the Marines launched offensive operations against terrorist elements on 28 October 2026. Early reports put the number of terrorists killed in action at 8, but a later Battle Damage Assessment raised the figure to 28.
In a separate operation on 30 October 2026, Marines deployed at Naval Base Lake Chad struck a Boko Haram enclave at Dumba.
The strike came after Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions had identified and tracked the terrorist elements, allowing a precision attack to be carried out.
A preliminary Battle Damage Assessment suggests that about 6 terrorists were neutralised, with several others said to have been injured.
The Navy noted that these casualty figures could change as assessments continue and further verification is carried out.
The newly established Nigerian Navy Marines have, since their deployment, served as a force multiplier within Operation HADIN KAI. Their involvement has improved the ability of troops to target terrorist enclaves, disrupt hostile activities and deny Boko Haram Terrorists freedom of action around Lake Chad. These efforts support the weakening of terrorist capabilities and the wider push to restore peace and stability in the North East.
The Nigerian Navy said it remains committed to backing joint operations through sustained offensive action and intelligence-driven engagements, in order to strengthen national security and protect vulnerable communities.
