FG Reiterates Commitement To Health Security, Universal Health Coverage

The Minister of Health Dr. Osagie Ehanire has reiterated the government’s commitement to strengthen health security and achieve universal health coverage in the country.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Media and Public Relations Unit of the ministry, Mr. A.A Chindaya on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

Acccording to the statement, Ehanire made the commitement on Monday 23rd May 2022, during his presentation at the 75th World Health Assembly taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.

He remarked that, this was the first physical Assembly since the start of the dreaded covid -19 pandemic which invariable marked the new confidence in us to resume work fully after learning vital lessons.

The Minister stated: “we are working towards strengthening health security and delivery to achieve the MDGs and Universal Health Coverage UHC”.

“We are also increasingly recognising the strong role and a vibrant primary Health care system can play in achieving objectives of the public Health security”, he said.

The World Health Assembly is the highest Health body of experts and professionals charged with the responsibility of policy formulation, decisions, and advice on Health related matters for Humanity.

Its headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland and members meet annually. The last physical meeting by member countries was held in 2019.

The Hon. Minister concluded his speech reiterating the fact that despite all odds and challenges the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was committed to achieving remarkably in the area of Public Health.
