Police Arrest 13 Over Violent Clashes At Ondo APC Ward Congress

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested 13 suspects over a violent attack that occurred in Idanre town during the ward congress of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC).

The Command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, in a statement on Saturday, said the incident, which took place on February 18, resulted in the death of two persons, while three others sustained injuries. Several properties were also destroyed during the clash.

Jimoh explained that acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, operatives of the Idanre Division carried out coordinated operations at strategic locations, leading to the arrest of the suspects identified as Adewusi, Dele, Akinkurole, Victor, Abbas, Michael, Jolojolo, Ifedayo, Olamilekan, Emmanuel, Sunday, Michael, and Monday.

He noted that the arrests followed a carefully planned, intelligence-led operation ordered by the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.

According to the spokesperson, the suspects have made useful statements to investigators, which are assisting ongoing investigations.

Commissioner Lawal reaffirmed the Command’s determination to ensure that all those involved in the attack are brought to justice. He urged residents of Idanre and the wider Ondo State community to remain calm and law-abiding, while providing timely and credible information to support security efforts.

Meanwhile, suspected kidnappers have abducted a couple in Ilu-Abo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The victims, Jamiu Olawale and his wife, were reportedly attacked on Friday shortly after returning from their shop. Gunmen said to have emerged from a nearby bush accosted the couple in front of their residence.

During the incident, the assailants also shot at a neighbour, Patrick Ilumaro, who was seated outside his home. He was rushed to hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
