The Federal Government generated the sum of N1.60 billion as rail transport revenue in Q4 2025, a new report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has disclosed.
NBS, in a Rail Transport Report for Q4 2025, released on Thursday, revealed that the sum of ₦1.60 billion was received from passengers during the reference period, showing a decrease of 16.30% from the ₦1.92 billion recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.
The Bureau also revealed that the sum of ₦397.82 million was collected from goods/cargo conveyed via rail in Q4 2025, a 1.58% increase from the ₦391.64 million received in Q4 2024.
Other receipts, according to the report, amounted to ₦75.89 million, indicating a decrease of 82.53% in Q4 2025 from the ₦434.44 million received in Q4 2024.
According to the report, in Q4 2025, a total of 940,476 passengers travelled via rail system, relative to 1,037,113 reported in the corresponding quarter of 2024, indicating a decrease of 9.32%.
It said the volume of goods/cargo transported via rail in Q4 2025 stood at 110,480 tons compared to 94,750 tons recorded in Q4 2024.
