NIGCOMSAT Targets Investment, Policy Gains At Satellite Week 2026

By Stella Enenche, Abuja

The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) has said it would leverage the second edition of the Nigerian Satellite Week (NSATWK 2026) to drive investment, deepen policy conversations, and accelerate growth in Nigeria’s emerging space economy.

This was contained in a statement made available on Saturday by NIGCOMSAT’s Head of Corporate Communications, Stephen Kwande.

The two-day event, scheduled for March 30–31 in Abuja, is expected to convene key players across government, defence, finance, and technology to address gaps in regulation, infrastructure, and funding critical to scaling satellite-based services in the country.

Organisers say the forum comes at a time when satellite technology is gaining prominence as a backbone for digital connectivity, national security, and economic diversification.

Managing Director, NIGCOMSAT, Jane Egerton-Idehen, said the event was designed to move beyond discussions to tangible outcomes, particularly in unlocking financing and strengthening collaboration across sectors.

She noted that recent developments within the organisation including a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) partnership with Eutelsat, revenue growth, and international engagements reflect increasing momentum in Nigeria’s space ecosystem.

A major focus of the gathering will be aligning policy direction with industry needs, as stakeholders deliberate on how to create an enabling environment for private sector participation and long term investment in satellite infrastructure.

The event will also spotlight innovation through a Startup Demo Day, where emerging African tech companies will pitch solutions spanning agriculture, logistics, healthcare, and broadband access.

In addition, NIGCOMSAT will launch Accelerator Cohort 3.0, a programme aimed at supporting early stage ventures and strengthening local capacity in satellite applications and digital services.

Such initiatives are critical to building a pipeline of indigenous companies capable of competing in the global space economy.

High level participation is expected from senior government officials, including the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, alongside representatives of key agencies such as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

The Chief of Defence Staff is also billed to deliver a keynote, highlighting the growing importance of satellite capabilities in national security and strategic operations.

NIGCOMSAT said the event will serve as a platform to align national priorities with global trends, while positioning Nigeria as a key player in Africa’s rapidly evolving space and satellite industry.
