Intensified crackdown by operatives of the Delta State Police Command on child trafficking and related crimes across the state, has led to the rescue of abducted children and the arrest of suspects in separate operations in Warri and Effurun.

According to a statement on Wednesday by the state Command’s spokesperson, Edafe Bright, Operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), Warri, on May 10, 2026, at about 9:15 a.m., rescued a two-year-old child suspected to have been abducted, and prevented the lynching of a suspect at Igbudu Market in Warri.

The suspect, identified as Fejiro Obaduemu, 29, of Idesor Street, Isi Layout, Warri, was intercepted by vigilant residents while allegedly carrying the child concealed inside a sack bag, raising suspicions of child theft.

Before the suspect could be mobbed, QRS operatives swiftly intervened, rescued both the child and the suspect, and evacuated them from the scene. The suspect, who sustained injuries from the mob attack, was taken to the Police Clinic in Warri for treatment before being taken into custody for further investigation.

Further investigation conducted on May 11 led to the successful tracing of the child’s parents, and the toddler was formally reunited with the family in the presence of leaders of the Hausa community in Warri.

Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to being sent by another suspect, currently at large, to steal the child. Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the wider criminal network linked to the crime.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, assured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting children and combating all forms of human trafficking and related offences.

He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving children to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency line: 08036684974.
