NAF Deepens Non-Kinetic Campaign With Medical Outreach In Maiduguri

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 105 Composite Group Medical Centre at NAF Base, Maiduguri, has carried out a series of medical and humanitarian outreach programmes aimed at supporting ongoing non-kinetic operations and strengthening civil-military relations in Borno State.

NAF said on Wednesday that the three-day programme, organised as part of the 2026 Nurses Week celebration, was in line with the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, for a people-centred and community-focused Air Force.

TheFact Daily reports that in recent years, the Nigerian Armed Forces have increasingly combined kinetic operations with non-kinetic strategies in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, particularly in the North-East.

Beyond combat missions, the military has sustained humanitarian interventions, medical outreaches, educational support, and community engagement programmes designed to build public trust, counter extremist influence, and win civilian support as part of broader counter-insurgency efforts.

Activities conducted during the outreach included health education campaigns, school visits, awareness rallies, and recognition of outstanding nursing personnel.

Speaking during the event, the Unit Commander, Group Captain KO Nwachukwu, commended NAF nurses for their professionalism, sacrifice, and commitment to service delivery in operational environments.

He noted that their contributions remain critical to both military effectiveness and community wellbeing.

As part of the outreach, medical personnel conducted sensitisation campaigns on hypertension, personal hygiene, HIV prevention, and safe health practices for military personnel and civilians. In support of ongoing cholera prevention efforts in the state, the team also visited Pompomari Primary and Junior Secondary School, where students were educated on hand hygiene and sanitation.

The outreach also featured the distribution of sanitary pads, liquid soap, disinfectants, and other hygiene materials to students and members of the community.

Officials from the Borno State Ministry of Health and other public health stakeholders participated in the programme, further strengthening collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force and civil institutions in promoting public health, community resilience, and sustainable peace in the North-East.
