Army Moves To Modernize Healthcare Through Private-sector Partnership

The Nigerian Army is exploring a strategic Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to upgrade its healthcare facilities, improve access to modern medical services and strengthen support for personnel and their families.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, held discussions with a high-level delegation at Army Headquarters, Abuja, on the proposed collaboration. The delegation was led by former COAS, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (Rtd), and included representatives of Honey Star Resources Limited, M&P, Elevate Egypt and the League of African Ambassadors.
The proposed partnership will focus on developing and upgrading Army hospitals, providing modern medical equipment and pharmaceutical support, as well as deploying digital health solutions across Army establishments. The initiative is expected to improve the capacity, accessibility and resilience of military healthcare facilities.
Shaibu said the health and wellbeing of personnel and their families remained central to his “Soldier First” concept and essential to operational effectiveness. He stressed that a healthy and well-supported force was critical to morale, readiness and sustained effectiveness, while welcoming credible partnerships that could bring investment, expertise, technology and innovative solutions to complement government efforts.
The Army said the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening personnel welfare while modernising critical healthcare infrastructure. It added that improved healthcare would contribute to troop readiness and enhance the Army’s capacity to respond effectively to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
