Atiku Urges FBI To Release Tinubu Records, Rejects “Danger To Lives” Excuse

By Sunday Etuka

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has pushed back against the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) use of a “danger to lives” justification for withholding records on President Bola Tinubu, arguing that Nigerians are already dying under the current administration’s policies.

In a statement released on Saturday through his spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the reasoning was ironic given the toll of Tinubu’s economic decisions.

He pointed to the removal of fuel subsidies as a major driver of hardship, saying families have gone from three meals a day to one, parents can’t afford medicine, and breadwinners are drowning in debt.

Atiku reaffirmed that restoring fuel subsidies, done in a targeted, transparent, and audited way, would be central to his own agenda if elected, arguing that fuel prices ripple through transportation, food costs, and jobs.

He then addressed the FBI directly, saying he wasn’t asking the bureau to expose undercover agents, confidential sources, or investigative methods. Rather, he argued that any information about Tinubu that can legally be disclosed should be, framing it as a matter of democratic accountability rather than interference in Nigerian politics.

“Nigerians have a democratic right to know the history and character of the man who occupies their country’s highest office,” the statement said, adding that American secrecy laws should not become “a sanctuary from accountability in Nigeria.”

Atiku, who served as Nigeria’s vice president from 1999 to 2007, is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
