Former Governor of Bayelsa State and National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, says he and the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have resolved internal disputes that had been a source of tension within the opposition party.
Dickson disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle following a closed-door meeting with Obi and other senior party leaders that lasted approximately three hours.
“We have amicably resolved all the issues,” Dickson said, adding that both sides had “agreed on how to handle them moving forward.”
While acknowledging that “a few issues have arisen,” the former governor projected a united front, stressing that the party’s leadership remained aligned on its core objective of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls.
“We have always been on the same page on the bigger picture, i.e., winning the elections for all candidates of our party and rescuing Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC-led government,” he said.
Dickson used the occasion to appeal to party members to end what he described as “bickering and name-calling,” urging them to focus on the broader electoral mission.
He pledged that he, and Obi, alongside other party stakeholders, would continue to consult regularly to strengthen the NDC’s unity and cohesion ahead of the elections.
The meeting signals an effort by the NDC leadership to paper over internal cracks at a critical period in the party’s build-up to the next general election.
