Sowore Accepts AAC Presidential Ticket, Unveils Four-Pillar Economic Plan

By Sunday Etuka

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has accepted the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections, and has unveiled a four-pronged economic blueprint.

Speaking before the party members and supporters on Tuesday, Sowore described his candidacy as a revolutionary alternative to the established political parties, which he dismissed as “a criminal conspiracy disguised as democracy.”

In his speech, the politician cum activist called on Nigerians to mobilise on August 5 for what he described as a Nationwide State of Resistance against “tyranny, oppression, corruption, exploitation, and the destruction of our future.”

The date was symbolic because it was on August 5, 2019, that the #Revolution Now protests erupted across Nigeria, a day after Sowore was arrested in Lagos ahead of the planned demonstration.

He also tied the date #EndBadGovernance uprising of August 2024, positioning this year’s action as the next chapter in an unbroken line of popular resistance.

“History is speaking to us again,” he said. Nigerians must once again rise peacefully, courageously , and collectively to reclaim the country from those who have turned governance into organised cruelty against the people.”

Sowore also used the occasion to introduce what he called four people-driven economic models intended to replace what he termed the “black economy”-a system he described as built on corruption, environmental destruction, and the concentration of wealth in a tiny elite.

Giving the four models as The Orange Economy, The Purple Economy, The Blue Economy, and The Green Economy, Sowore said “the true measure of economic success must no longer be the obscene wealth of a few oligarchs, but the prosperity , dignity, and opportunities available to ordinary Nigerians,” he said.

Sowore used the occasion to reflect on the party’s trajectory since its founding in August 2018, pointing to its role in the #RevolutionNow movement, the #EndSars protests, and the #EndBadGovernance uprising as evidence of the party’s street-level influence.

He also claimed credit for compelling the Nigeria Police Force to carry out what he described as the largest promotion exercise in its history, covering over 100,000 officers, and for forcing the retirement of the former Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Closing with a vision of a transformed Nigeria-one with 24-hours of electricity, functional public transportation system, free quality education, and affordable healthcare, Sowore called on Nigerians to join the AAC in what he described as a march not through the “bedrooms of governors,” but “through the streets, the factories, the hearts of millions of Nigerians.”

“Just imagine waking up on January 17, 2027, with the ACC leading in all elections,” he said. The struggle continues. Victory is certain.”
