President Bola Tinubu has approved a new three-year tenure for Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos as Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Ali Mohammed Ali as Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), extending their leadership of the two federal media organisations.
This was disclosed on Sunday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, both appointees were first named to their positions on October 20, 2023, and their renewed terms will commence on October 20, 2026.
Dembos hails from Yola, Adamawa State, and is a former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).
He joined the NTA in 1989 as an announcer at the Kaduna Station after his National Youth Service and rose through the ranks, serving as General Manager at NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano at different times.
He retired in 2017 as acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre, and later served as the authority’s executive director of marketing.
Ali is a veteran journalist and media manager with more than 30 years of experience, with a particular interest in media evolution and content development in the digital space.
He holds a first degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Bayero University, Kano.
The statement said President Tinubu had charged both chief executives to justify his confidence in them by sustaining their commitment to their organisations’ mandates and to the promotion of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
