Workers’ Day: Minimum Wage Should Be N250k, Not N70k -Edema

A governorship aspirant, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Olugbenga Edema said the minimum wage for workers should be raised to nothing less than N250,000 per month, calculated at the rate of N1,250 to a dollar.

Edema in his workers’ day message said a higher minimum wage must resonate with workers who strive tirelessly to contribute to the growth and prosperity of the state and the country.

TheFact Daily recalls that the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki had been receiving praises for raising the minimum wage of his state workers to N70,000 on Monday.

Edema, however, stated that no one should be contented with or settled for N70, 000 minimum wage.

He said, “On this auspicious occasion of May Day, I must recognise the invaluable contributions of our workforce to the growth and development of our dear state and the country.

“It is crucial that we ensure their welfare by setting a minimum wage that reflects the current economic conditions.

“The demand for a new minimum wage by Nigerian workers is now at the peak and must urgently be honoured.

“No worker should have to make do with a meagre N70,000 when the cost of living continues to rise.”

The Governorship aspirant noted that the minimum wage for workers should be raised to no less than N250,000 per month, calculated at the rate of N1,250 to a dollar.

He averred that such an increase was necessary to align with the economic realities faced by workers in the country and to provide them with a decent standard of living.
