Kano Police Probes Death Of Customs Officer, Fatal Fight

The Kaduna State Police Command says it has launched an investigation into the death of a personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service, and a fatal fight that led to the death of two youths.

The Command’s public relations officer, SP Haruna Abdullahi Kiyawa, made this known in a statement issued on Monday.

The Fact Daily gathered that the Farm Centre Division of the Command, at about 12pm on 6th May 2024, received a report that a Customs officer, one CSC Abdullahi Abdulwahab Magaji, serving in Abuja, and a resident of Farm Centre Quarters in Kano, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a pump action gun.

The feedback from the Crime-scene Police Team, which was led by the Division’s chief, CSP Ibrahim Abubakar, prompted the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, to order a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

In the same vein, on 12th May, 2024 a report was received that armed groups of hoodlums had engaged in heavy fights at Darmanawa Quarters Kano, consequent upon which teams of policemen responded and dispersed them.

On inquiry, it was discovered that one Muhammad Barde of Darmanawa Quarters Kano, organised a Gangi event for the upcoming wedding of his children. The thugs took advantage of the event to engage in supremacy fights that resulted in injuries to 3 persons and damages to vehicles owned by innocent passersby.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police ordered the arrest of the organiser of the event, Mohamed Barde,along with two other suspects, all of whom are in police custody with investigation ongoing.

However, few hours after the police intervention, the fight somehow escalated, that saw the hoodlums engage in a display of weapons, and an ensuing confrontation with other security personnel who responded to calm the situation, but not before Sadiq Abdulkadir and Muhammad Sanni, aged 23 and 22 respectively, lost their lives in the brawl.

“The police is currently conducting full scale investigation on both circumstances of which the details will be made public”, Kiyawa said.
