Nigeria’s Postal Revenue Rose To ₦8.14Bn Despite Drop In Mail Volume -NBS

By Sunday Etuka

Nigeria generated ₦8.14 billion revenue from postal services in 2025, a sharp 168.81% increase from the ₦3.05 billion recorded in 2024, according to the 2025 Postal Services Report released on Thursday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The strong revenue growth came despite a notable decline in the volume of mail handled. The total number of postal articles processed fell by nearly 24%, from approximately 23.99 million in 2024 to 18.24 million in 2025, suggesting that higher-value service rather than volume are increasingly driving earnings in the sector.

The number of post offices and postal agencies across the country remained unchanged at 2,048, while installed post boxes edged down marginally by 0.23% to 786,323 from 788,124 the previous year. The total number of Private Mail Bags (PMBs) also saw a slight dip of 0.46%, from 22,024, to 21,962.
