Oyebanji Reelected Governor Of Ekiti State

Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been reelected as Governor of Ekiti State, after a decisive victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) formally declared Oyebanji winner of the poll on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, following a commanding performance across all 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

According to the final results announced by INEC, Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 40,543 votes. Oluwadare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 12,872 votes.

The APC candidate swept all the 16 local government areas, recording wins across both urban and rural voting blocs in the state.

INEC’s State Returning Officer, Adenike Oladiji who oversaw the final collection of results, declared Oyebanji winner after confirming that he satisfied all constitutional requirements for the office of the governor.

She disclosed that out of the 382,109 votes cast, 6,332 were rejected, while 382,940 votes were accredited out of 988,251 registered voters in the state.

Other parties polled as follows: ADC-12,872; ADP-1,269; A-564; AA-126; AAC-195; APM-59; APP-61; LP-276; NNPP-35; PRP-163; SDP-179; YPP-98; and ZLP-113.

With this victory, Oyebanji has secured another four years in office, consolidating the APC’s hold in Ekiti State. The win also adds another chapter to the state’s political history, with Oyebanji joining the ranks of governors who have successfully secured reelection in Ekiti.
