The Kano State Police Command has deployed 250 newly trained officers to border Local Government Areas of the state to strengthen security and improve response to emergencies in frontline communities.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this on Tuesday at the passing-out ceremony of the second batch of 250 officers who completed a one-month intensive combat and weapon-handling training.
TheFact Daily notes that the deployment comes against the backdrop of the need to reinforce security along Kano’s borders and in vulnerable communities, where effective police presence is considered crucial to preventing criminal activities and responding swiftly to security threats.
Bakori said the training was conducted simultaneously at 9 PMF, Hotoro, and 52 PMF, Challawa, in line with the strategic policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, which prioritises capacity building, professionalism and operational readiness.
He charged the officers to be vigilant, professional and firm but fair in the discharge of their duties, urging them to protect vulnerable persons, respect citizens’ fundamental rights and work closely with traditional and community leaders while confronting criminal elements within the law.
The commissioner commended the officers for their discipline and resilience during the rigorous training, comprising physical drills, tactical exercises, weapon handling and classroom instruction. He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained in-house refresher training to keep personnel adequately equipped for effective and safe policing.
