Mother’s Day: Mrs Akeredolu Commends Foster, Adoptive Mothers

Wife of Ondo State Governor, Betty-Anyanwu-Akeredolu.

The wife of Ondo State governor, Arabinrin Betty-Anyanwu Akeredolu has commended those women who served as foster and adoptive mothers for the less privileged children in their communities.

In her message to celebrate all mothers in Ondo state and beyond to mark the year 2021 Mother’s Day, Mrs Akeredolu who described the roles of mothers as a very challenging one, gave kudos to all mothers who had played important roles of mothers in many lives aside their biological children.

The Ondo First Lady whose Mother’s Day message was made public through her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Miss Oluwatobi Fademi noted that mothers’ roles as round-the-clock caregivers and confidants had expanded in so many ways during the coronavirus pandemic and should not be taken for granted.

She said: “as a mother and grandmother, I know raising children is the most important, loving and yet challenging job. As such women are best described as natural ornaments who keep the society functioning.

“Today, many mothers are pulling double and triple duties; caring for children, working and navigating financial hardship caused by the COVID-19 drawbacks”.

According to her, as mothers play a vital role in society by shaping the morals and values of the young ones, there’s a need to raise the boys to become responsible men in the society; saying “while raising our daughters to aspire for more, BE MORE, let us raise our boys to respect women. Boys who are trained not to hit or rape”.

She used the occasion of the Mother’s Day to implore mothers to prioritise their health as they busy taking care of people around them.

” It is important we do not neglect our own health. We must practise good health habits such as eating balanced meals, exercising and getting regular breast cancer screening.

“I celebrate and honour all of our mothers, grandmothers and mother figures for their wisdom, love and commitment to their children and families”, she said.
