Nasarawa Police Neutralise Suspected Kidnapper, Recover Weapon

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State have neutralised a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK47 rifle and ammunition.

The spokesperson of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Rahman Nansel, made this known on Thursday, 4 April 2024.

TheFact Daily gathered that a distress call was received at about 9 pm on Wednesday, 3 April 2024, that some hoodlums had blocked the Nasarawa – Keffi highway, around Kemu village, attempting to kidnap unsuspecting road users.

Reacting to the unpleasant development, police operatives, in collaboration with the military, swiftly raced to the scene, where they engaged the criminals who opened fire on the security forces upon sighting them.

In the ensuing gun duel, one of the hoodlums was fatally wounded while one Ak 47 riffle loaded with eleven (11) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered. This forced the hoodlums to abandon their mission as they scampered for safety due to the superior firepower of the joint security forces.

According to Nansel, the swift intervention of the joint security forces foiled an earlier attempt by these same criminals who had previously stopped two Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in order to kidnap the occupants.

The wounded kidnapper was rushed to General Hospital, Nasarawa, where he died while receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has assured members of the public that the Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all road users and residents in the State, adding that this achievement marks a significant step towards attaining that goal.
