The Federal Capital Territory Administration has moved swiftly to address a power crisis in Maitama and its environs, after the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed that its C2 Maitama Substation was invaded and encroached upon, triggering widespread outages.
“FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has been fully briefed on the situation and has personally intervened to facilitate an urgent resolution of the issues responsible for the current power disruption affecting Maitama and adjoining areas,” an updated public notice made available on Saturday by the AEDC Spokesperson, Omede Odekina has said.
AEDC said it is now working hand-in-hand with the Minister, the FCT Administration, security agencies and other stakeholders to secure the substation, safeguard the critical infrastructure, and speed up restoration of electricity to affected areas.
The invasion of the substation has disrupted power supply not only in Maitama but in adjourning neighbourhoods, leaving residents in the affluent district without steady electricity.
The DisCo praised Wike for what it called his “swift intervention and unwavering commitment” to resolving the matter, and reassured customers of its determination to restore supply as quickly and safely as possible.
“AEDC remains fully committed to restoring electricity supply as quickly and safely as possible and appreciates the patience, understanding and continued support of our customers during this challenging period,” the public notice said.
