FG Steps Up Seed Certification To Strengthen Food Security

The Federal Government is stepping up its seed certification reforms to strengthen food security in the country.

This commitment was reinforced on Tuesday when the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kiyari in Abuja.

The meeting, according to a statement by the Director, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Manga, to advance collaboration on Nigeria’s food security agenda.

Manga said the talks focused on expanding access to certified seeds, establishing a decentralised seed certification system with strict quality controls, and finalising preparations for the upcoming dry season farming.

Strengthening agricultural productivity is central to reducing food inflation, attracting private investment, and securing long-term economic growth for Nigeria.
