Kwara Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue  Victims

Police operatives in Kwara State have eliminated two of the kidnappers responsible for kidnapping a woman and her son.

The Police spokesperson in the State, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday. It would be recalled that one Afusat Lawal and her son, Taofeek Lawal, were on Friday, 9 September, 2022, in Shao, abducted and whisked away to an unknown location.

According to Ajayi, the victims were rescued after an intensive and painstaking search and rescue operation carried out by the Command’s Tactical teams, alongside vigilante and hunters.

The kidnappers were accosted in the bush while sharing the ransom collected from the family of the victims. They opened fire upon sighting the security operatives, and in the ensuing gun duel, two of the kidnappers suffered gunshot injuries and were taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital where they were later confirmed dead.

Consequently, their corpses were deposited in the hospital mortuary.

Exhibits recovered from the kidnappers include 1 Honda Accord Saloon car with Reg. Number LAGOS GJ 52 LSR, 1 single barrel gun and an unspecified amount of money.

Ajayi added that effort is still being intensified to get other fleeing members of the gang arrested for prosection.

Meanwhile, the rescued victims have been reunited with their family after being certified medically stable.
